Classroom Game Ideas

Last week, we shared two tried-and-true gym games, but what if you don’t have a gym? No problem! Here are a couple of very simple, very fun classroom games you can try.

Snowball Fight

Object of Game
To get as much newspaper on the opposing team’s side as possible in the time allowed.

Equipment Needed
Old newspapers

How the Game Is Played
Divide the group into two teams, and divide your playing space in half. Each team is positioned on one half. They cannot cross to the other team’s side. Give each team an equal stack of old newspaper. On your signal, their task is to take a sheet of newspaper, crumple it up into a “snowball” and throw it at the other team. Set a time limit for the snowball fight (for example, three minutes), and when the time ends estimate which team has fewer snowballs on their side. This is the winning team.

Beach Ball Volleyball

Object of Game
To land the ball on the opposing team’s side.

Equipment Needed
A beach ball

How the Game Is Played
Divide the group into two teams, and divide your playing space in half. Each team is positioned on one half. They cannot cross to the other team’s side. One team will serve the ball to the other team. They teams will pass the ball back and forth across the middle, and when it lands on the floor in one team’s area, the other team scores a point. One variation on this game is to require all the kids to sit (Sit Down Beach Ball Volleyball), which is great for larger groups or if there is a lot of furniture in the room.
