Cat and Mouse

Objective:

Avoid being caught by the “cat” by linking arms with a pair of students.

Materials Needed:

  • None

Game Setup:

  1. Select one student to be the “cat” and another to be the “mouse.”
  2. All other students form pairs, link arms, and spread out across the room.

How to Play:

  1. The game begins with the cat chasing the mouse. The goal is for the mouse to avoid being tagged.
  2. If the cat tags the mouse, they switch roles: the mouse becomes the new cat, and the cat becomes the new mouse.
  3. The mouse can avoid being tagged by linking arms with one of the students in a pair. When this happens, the student on the opposite side of the linked pair becomes the new mouse and must immediately break away and start running from the cat.
  4. Play continues with the cat chasing the new mouse, and the cycle repeats.
  5. The game can go on as long as desired, with students constantly switching roles between cat and mouse.

Pro Tips:

  • Ensure players understand the importance of playing gently, especially when linking arms or switching roles, to avoid accidents or rough play.
  • Remind students not to push or pull others when joining pairs and to be mindful of personal space.
  • Make sure there’s enough room for students to run safely, with no sharp corners or obstacles in the way.
  • Encourage quick decision-making and remind the mouse not to hesitate when switching places to keep the game moving smoothly.
