Catch the Ball

Objective:

Avoid being in the middle of the circle by keeping the ball moving.

Materials Needed:

  • One dodgeball

Game Setup:

  1. Have all the students stand to form a circle.
  2. Choose one student to stand in the center of the circle.

How to Play:

  1. The students in the circle pass the ball to one another. The ball can be thrown to any player in the circle at any speed.
  2. The player in the center of the circle tries to intercept the ball as it’s passed between the students.
  3. When the player in the middle successfully catches the ball, the last person to touch it (either by throwing or catching) trades places with the player in the center and becomes the new “middle” player.
  4. If someone throws the ball far outside the circle or makes an uncatchable throw, that player takes a turn in the middle.
  5. Play continues until the game leader stops the game.

Pro Tips:

  • Encourage players to throw at a reasonable speed to prevent injuries, especially when passing over longer distances.
  • Ensure the space is clear and large enough for players to move without running into each other.
  • If players are having trouble catching or passing the ball, consider using a softer, lighter ball to reduce the risk of injury.
  • Remind players in the middle to stay focused and be aware of their surroundings to avoid collisions when reaching for the ball.
