Frogs and Ants

Object of the Game

To be the last person tagged by a frog.

Equipment Needed

4 to 5 hula-hoops (lily pads)

How to Play

  1. Spread out four or five hula hoops (lily pads) around the playing area.
  2. Choose two players to be frogs. The remaining players will be ants.
  3. The frogs chase the ants, attempting to tag them.
  4. When an ant is tagged, they must lie down on their back with arms and legs extended in the air (the “injured” position).
  5. To rescue an injured ant, four healthy ants must each grab an arm or a leg and drag the injured ant to the nearest lily pad.
  6. Once the four healthy ants start rescuing the injured ant, all five ants are safe from being tagged by frogs.
  7. After the group reaches the lily pad, the injured ant is healed, and all five ants may rest on the lily pad for up to five seconds.
  8. The game continues until all ants have been tagged by frogs, ending the round.
  9. Select two new frogs and play again.

Winning

The last ant to be tagged by a frog is the winner.

Pro Tips

  • For larger groups, add more frogs to increase the challenge.
  • Encourage teamwork among the ants to rescue each other quickly.
  • Remind players to be gentle while dragging their teammates to avoid injury.
