Guard Your Line

Objective:

Score points by kicking the ball across the opposing team’s line.

Materials Needed:

  • One dodge ball

Game Setup:

  1. Divide students into two teams.
  2. Each team stands on opposite baselines of a gym.
  3. Players on each team are numbered sequentially (e.g., 1, 2, 3 . . .).

How to Play:

  1. Place the dodge ball in the center of the gym.
  2. The game leader will call out a number (or two or three numbers).
  3. The players from both teams with the corresponding number(s) will run to the center of the gym and try to kick the ball across the opposing team’s baseline to score a point. The players not called will “guard their line” by trying to block the ball from crossing the baseline.
  4. The first team to kick the ball across the opposing baseline scores the point.
  5. Play continues as the leader calls new numbers or combinations of numbers.
  6. After each round, reset the ball in the center and repeat.

Pro Tips:

  • Ensure students know to avoid overly aggressive play to prevent collisions.
  • Instruct players to kick the ball below waist level to avoid injury.
  • Have a clear boundary for players to stay within to reduce the chance of running into walls or equipment.
