Names in Motion

Objective:

Help students learn each other’s names in a fun and memorable way.

Materials Needed:

  • None

Game Setup:

  1. Arrange students in a circle, standing and facing each other.

How to Play:

  1. Introduction: Explain that each student will come up with a unique motion that represents something about themselves. For example, a student who enjoys soccer might pretend to kick a ball, or someone who likes reading might mimic holding and turning the pages of a book.
  2. Preparation: Give students a minute to think of their motion. Leaders can assist younger students in coming up with ideas.
  3. First Round: One by one, go around the circle. Each student says their name and demonstrates their motion.
  4. Second Round: The game begins with the first student saying their name and showing their motion. The player to their right must repeat the name and motion of the first player before saying their own name and performing their own motion. Continue around the circle, with each player repeating the names and motions of everyone before them in the correct order, then adding their own.
  5. Bonus Challenge: Give a small prize (such as candy or tickets) to any student who successfully remembers and repeats the names and motions of all players before them.
  6. Mix it Up: Once the game is completed, switch up the circle’s order and play again to keep things interesting.

Pro Tips:

  • Encourage an environment of support and fun where mistakes are okay and everyone cheers for each other.
  • Allow students to pass or choose simpler motions if they feel shy, and make sure small group leaders are there to help younger or more introverted students.
  • Keep the game lighthearted, and provide gentle reminders to maintain patience and kindness toward others.
