Truth Taught: Jesus’ resurrection brings new life—he takes what is broken in us and makes it whole through his power and love.
Materials:
- A cracked or broken eggshell (from a real egg or a plastic one that you break ahead of time)
- A fully intact, whole egg (real or plastic)
- A clear bowl or container
Instructions:
- Begin by showing the broken egg. Ask the children: What happens when something is broken? Can we easily fix it?Let them share their thoughts.
- Explain: This broken egg represents us before we know Jesus. Sin breaks our relationship with God and makes a mess of things. No matter how hard we try, we can’t fix it on our own.
- Place the broken shell in the clear bowl and say: This is what our lives can look like when we don’t have Jesus—fragile and broken by sin.
- Now hold up the whole egg and explain: But Jesus changes everything. When he died on the cross and rose again, he made a way for us to be forgiven and have new life. Through Jesus, God takes what’s broken in us and makes it whole again.
- Read 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NLT): “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!”
- Ask: How do you think it feels to have a new life with Jesus, where he makes all things right? Let them share their answers.
- Conclude by explaining: Jesus’ resurrection isn’t just about him coming back to life—it’s about him giving us new life. He makes our brokenness whole and gives us hope for today and forever.
- Invite the children to trust in Jesus: If you want to follow Jesus and trust him to save you from your sins, you can ask him to forgive you and to be your Savior today. He came to save you, and he wants to give you a new life with God.
Aha Moment: The contrast between the broken egg and the whole egg visually shows how Jesus takes the brokenness of sin and restores us through his resurrection power, offering children a clear understanding of what it means to have new life in Christ.
