Silent Speedball

Objective:

Be the last player standing by successfully catching and passing the ball without speaking.

Materials Needed:

  • One dodgeball

Game Setup:

  1. Have all students form a large circle.
  2. Players must remain silent throughout the game.

How to Play:

  1. Players pass the ball to any other player of their choice, aiming for a successful catch.
  2. If a player fails to catch the ball or drops it after catching it, they are out and must sit down where they were standing.
  3. If the player throwing the ball makes a poor throw (e.g., too short, over the head, or out of reach), the thrower is out and must sit down.
  4. The game continues until only one player remains standing, and they are declared the winner.
  5. Variation: Players can spread out in a larger area instead of standing in a circle. However, no player is allowed to move from their spot when catching or passing the ball.

Pro Tips:

  • Use a lightweight ball, such as a soft dodgeball, to minimize the risk of injury during fast passes or dropped catches.
  • Ensure the playing area is large enough for students to stand or spread out comfortably without risk of colliding.
  • Encourage students to be careful and accurate when throwing to prevent overly aggressive or difficult throws.
  • Emphasize the “silent” rule to avoid distractions and maintain focus during the game.
  • Consider modifying the rules slightly for younger players, such as allowing a second chance on dropped catches.
