Truth Taught: Even the smallest acts of faith can grow into something big and impactful in God’s kingdom.
Materials:
- A small mustard seed (or any small seed)
- A large tree branch or picture of a tree
- Bible
Instructions:
- Begin by showing the mustard seed (or a small seed). Ask the children: What do you think this seed could grow into? Let them share their ideas. Most of them will think it’s too small to do much.
- Read Matthew 13:31-32 (NLT): “Here is another illustration Jesus used: ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.’”
- Hold up the tree branch or picture of a large tree and explain: Even though this seed looks small, it has the potential to grow into something big and important. Jesus was teaching that God’s kingdom is like that. It might start small—just like one child learning about Jesus—but it can grow and grow until it’s something huge and amazing!
- Ask the children: What are some small things we can do that could make a big difference for God? (Examples: Praying for others, telling someone about Jesus, helping others.)
- Hold up the mustard seed again and say: Even if our faith feels small, God can use it to make a big impact. It’s not about how big we are, but how big God is!
- Conclude by saying: God loves to use small things to do big things. When we trust him with even a little bit of faith, we get to be part of something amazing—God’s kingdom growing all over the world.
Aha Moment: The visual of the tiny mustard seed compared to the large tree helps children see how something that seems small can grow into something significant in God’s plan.
